Rumer, a petite 16 year old with a flair for fashion, is an apprentice reporter for the Global Quotidien and loves zipping across the colossal cityscape of 31st century Nanjing with her loyal sidekick, Qix, covering stories for her boss. But now, she’s furious with him for asking her to cover the exploits of Alfa, the planet’s wealthiest mega-conglomerate. Her parents died in an Alfa fabriplex accident when she was young and she can’t understand how he can be so insensitive. As she always does when frustrated, Rumer escapes into the networks and soon finds herself puzzling over a grapholo of a single blade of grass someone has spotted in Kuala Lampur.
Ever since the world’s flora and fauna have been replaced
with Alfa’s Syncov replicas, nature sightings like this have been routinely
dismissed, but Rumer senses that something is different this time. When ethereal voices relay a coded
message confirming her hunch that something is terribly amiss, Rumer slips away
with Qix on a globe-trotting quest for answers. Before long, she lands in the middle of an epic battle
between MoNa, the hurt and angry leader of the other-dimensional forces of
nature and her nemesis, Dr. BigCo, the powerful CEO of Alfa. The question is, will Rumer find a way
to turn things around before the world unwittingly self-destructs?
